Antique Safes/Herring's Safe

Hello, my in-laws have a very old and large safe in their home they inherited.  The safe is open.  We are looking for a key.  The following is engraved on the knob: 22561.  The safe operates with a very unusual key with teeth of varying lengths.

Where might we purchase a key?

Purchase a key for a safe that is between 120-150 years old?   You are kidding, right???    Unless you have a time machine you can't simply "purchase" a key.

One will have to be fabricated for this lock.   Currently at this time there are maybe three or four safe techs that I'm aware of in the US, who will make a key for these Herring "Grasshopper" locks.    Fortunately for you, I'm one of them and I'm in California.

So next question would be where are you and the safe located????

Cost to make a key runs around $350, and I will need access to the safe and the lock.   Depending on where the safe is located any travel time or work on the safe would be additional to the cost of the key.

If you are interested feel free to give me a call to discuss it further.   800-326-4224.

Note:   As I'm on the road several days each week, if I'm not in the office you can leave a message for me and I'll get back to you at my earliest convenience.
