Antique Safes/F.E. Wilson & Co.

I have what appears to be an antique copper pitcher stamped F.E.Wilson & Co. under the spout. IMP 1PT is also stamped on the front. It is not a reproduction, it's genuine old copper, hand crafted. Could this be in any way related to the F.E. Wilson & Co. that made the safes?

Hi J.B.

F.E. Wilson & Company was one of the "small" safe makers in England in the mid to late 1800's.   The lock and safe making business was taken over in 1890 by Edwin Cotterill.   As far as there making other items like pitcher's, etc., it is very possible, however, as this is an English firm, it is outside of my area of expertise.

I would recommend your contacting either Tom Gordon or Mike Palmer - also on this same site (All Experts, Antique Safes),  as they both live in England and are safe experts for most of western Europe - though I believe that Mike moved to Spain last year.

Patents for locks and similar items owned by the "Wilson" family date back to at least 1869.

Sorry I don't have any other info, but I specialize in antique American safes and safe manufacturers, not English safe makers.
