About Richard D. James
Expertise
I am a fan of Aphex Twin, and have been for a good while now. I have collected some rather interesting facts during my quest for enlightenment. Please feel free to tax my noggin at will. If I don`t know the answer, I know where to find it!

Aphex Twin - Aphex Twin mailing address?

Expert: Richard D. James - 9/27/2004

Question
I am a student wildlife filmmaker. A few years ago, I used some of Aphex Twin's music for my first student film.  My film was on the New Zealand sea lion and was not intended for broadcast, but a public television company has now asked if they can air my film.  Neither I nor the nonprofit public television company will make money from it. I have told them I can not let them use it unless I get permission from Aphex Twin.

I would like to send a DVD of my film to Aphex Twin and ask for permission for this nonprofit use.  Do you have their mailing address?

Thank you for your time.

Cheers,

Answer
Hi Hannah,

'Aphex Twin' is the artist name of the individual who's name is Richard James (of which I have appropriated for the purposes of AllExperts).  In my experiences of dealing with copyright law, usage can be mostly granted under an agreement that the material remains within educational or non-profit contexts.  However, you are quite right in wanting to get in touch with the copyright owner before broadcasting such material.

I do not have contact details of Richard James/Aphex Twin himself and so cannot pass these onto you.  What I can say is though that you should be dealing with the relative record company or label.  In this case the most likely of candidates are Warp Records or Rephlex Records, depending on the specific material you have utilised.

You should examine the origins of the tracks you have used and contact the relevant organisation:

Hope I've been of help.
