I love to cook. I feel that I can competently give advice on recipes, preparation, ingredient substitutions, problem solving (i.e. what went wrong?), etc. From a quick dinner in 20 minutes or less, to a formal dinner party for 12, I`ve done it all!

Appetizers (Excluding Soup) - Ingredient substitution

Question
Dear Suzette:
What can I use instead of wine in recipes calling for wine?

Answer
Hi Judith!

If you have a recipe that calls for white wine, you can safely substitute vinegar, preferably cider vinegar. Understand that there will be a subtle difference in the taste though.

For red wine, substitute a malt vinegar or a wine vinegar (which actually has no wine it in).

That will work in most recipes.

Hope this helps!

Suzette
