Question
My husbands ex-wife used to make "lil smokies" mini sausages with a bourbon sauce. I don't know if it was bbq or what. I have heard of it but can't find the recipe on the net or anywhere else. I know this is not "gormet" but it is what he would like so I hope you can help me. His ex wife Donna, was a wonderful cook and wonderful person. She died two years ago. I hope you can help. Thank you,
Terri J Smith

Answer
Hi Terri,

Try this one, it's fairly standard:

3/4 cup bourbon
3/4 cup brown sugar
1 1/2 cup catsup
1 tbsp. onion (grated)

Mix together.

Add 2 lbs. Little Smokie sausages and simmer slowly for one hour. Can be done in a crock pot. You can also add a dash of hot sauce or some BBQ sauce if you like. Play with the sauce a bit, getting hubby to taste, until he says "That's it!" Who knows, you might come up with something he likes better!

Enjoy the game!

I love to cook. I feel that I can competently give advice on recipes, preparation, ingredient substitutions, problem solving (i.e. what went wrong?), etc. From a quick dinner in 20 minutes or less, to a formal dinner party for 12, I`ve done it all!
