Expert: Jamshaid Zubairee - 6/8/2009
QuestionI'm researching Moslem culture for a report. What I need to know is: Is it true that Moslem women may not leave the house after sunset? Why? What is the penalty? What are some other restrictions.
Thank you in advance.
AnswerBro actually both women & Children are NOT allowed to leave home after sunset. Prophet Muhammad PBUH has prohibited this in a hadith (I don't remember the reference).
But she can leave for namaz...and any other work may be with some restrictions and if there is restrictions in islam then its not just for women, its for all, so if anyone says that islam have a some restriction for women its wrong.if we see according to the teachings of islam, there is no authentic verse of the Holyquran, and the sayings of the Holy prophet saw about it. this restriction can be a part of different culture.
There is NO punishment if sjhe leaves the home after sunset. It is just a sin coz prophet PBUH has prohibited this.
And we cant say that restrictions of islam are wrong ,the question about any restriction need deep study,so you must read deeply about islam then you can have the idea about the orders of islam, sometime we feel these are restrictions but infact Allaah knows His creatures well, all the sayings of Allaah are for our benefit but we dont think.
Generally women are NOT allowed to leave hom without any specific reason. They should stay in home. A woman needs her husband's permission to leave home, though general permission is sufficient for routine trips — with such permission, the wife need not seek permission for each individual trip.
She must wear hijab. Hijab is the Quranic requirement that Muslims, both male and female, dress and behave modestly. The most important Quranic verse relating to hijab is sura 24:31, which says, "And tell the believing women to lower their gaze and guard their private parts and not to display their adornment except that which ordinarily appears thereof and to draw their headcovers over their chests and not to display their adornment except to their [maharim]..."
