Arab Culture/Divorce

I am doing a paper in my ethical class. We are discussing divorce in the middle east and the question came up if the men in the middle east can have 4 wives could he divorce all 4 wives at one time?

Islam allows men to marry four wives and a divorce that is proclaimed in front of three male witnesses. It is a religious event not a cultural one. Few men can afford four wives and the number of children that accompany them. Most marry just one. However, those who have multiple wives seldom divorce them, because the male is responsible for her financial well being along with her children, therefore its often cheaper to stay married. Divorce is a rare occurrence in the Middle East because both culture and religion (Christian, Muslim and Jew) discourage it.
