Question
Hi, I'm looking for the origins of the surname 'Marrah.' A friend of mine from Libya is trying to figure out where it came from, etc. Thanks!

Answer
Dear Brigitte
thanks a lot for your question
Arabian surnames and their origins is a science by its own! because we have hundreds of thousands of family names if not more and each one has its own anecdote on where it came from and what does it mean
so thats a tough question i got there but i will try my best!
Marrah gives me the vibe of several words at the same time .. it could be one of those
Marrah as in مرّة  which means once / one time
Marrah as in امراة which means a woman
Marrah as in  مرّة  which means sour
Marrah as in مرح  which means fun
i cant be sure which one is the most applicable one! im sorry for that but i tried my best and those are the possibilities

hope this helps!
