Question
Respected friend,

As-sallam Aleikum. Ana atahaddath faqat qaliil min al-arabiyya. Ismi adb-al kitab nazrani --however I also revere Islam very much, and in particular I respect the the words of Imam Tirmidhi, may Allah be pleased with him.  I have a favorite saying of his which I only know in its English translation, but I would love to know how to pronounce the original words for it so that I would be able to memorize this pronunciation. My school had an CD-ROM encyclopedia with a recording of this, but unfortunately I have forgotten and I do not go to that school any longer.

From this, I learned that Imam Tirmidhi said about marriage: "The best among you are the best to your wives." Will you please tell me how to pronounce this in Arabic? Also, if you have time, could your please tell me what the word for "chivalry" is in Arabic, and how to pronounce it? Thank you very much for being willing to answer questions.

Answer
Salam Julian.

You wrote that the saying '' The best among you are the best to your wives'' is from Imam Tirmithy, yet its a saying of The prophet Mohammed (pbuh). خيركم, خيركم لاهله. ''Kheirukom, Kheirukom le ahleh''. (Yes, you say ''kheirukom'' twice :) )

The arabic word for ''Chivalry'' is ''Al Furousya'' الفروسية.

I can answer almost everything, from classical Arabic to all major dialects. However North-African dialects -except Egyptian- might get a bit difficult, and sometimes not understandable enough. Questions about Arab culture are welcomed as well.

Experience

I am a native speaker of the language, particularly interested in classical Arabic. Have practiced and self-studied Arabic for a long time.
