Question I am getting rather fed up w/my Union, but being told it could take quite a while for my case to even be chosen for arbitration. It has only been five months; however, as I wait, my former employer is making so many changes which I feel could affect my case: Layoffs, CEO quit, Dept. shutdown-including my former dept, slated for shutdown in a month. Even though I have approached the Union via phone/in-person, they tell me to be patient. Others are telling me this should not take this long. I have been told by professionals that my case is very strong. I am ready to take this to an attorney, but wondering if I am wasting my time or else, how would I expedite this? It seems w/ all the changes at the former employer, it is hurting me for any legal matter if I decide to take further action, as the former CEO and dept in which I worked will no longer be there and so I will just get "lost" in the shuffle! Please help me! I'm getting nowhere with my union, feel alone in this matter, and am ready to pay a qualified attorney to get this started.
Answer Mel,
I am going to tell you what you already know. I strongly suggest you speak with a labor attorney who is familiar with your union and the community. I do not know where you live, the company or the union but a local attorney would be equipped to answer all your questions and put your mind at ease.
