Question
can the arbitrator force us to sell our house to pay a award of $20,000.00  i have four children and i'm scared

Answer
Tami,

It is a little difficult to answer your question since you did not provide any information.

I have no idea where you live or what type of arbitration you are talking about.

Sometimes, a binding arbitration can be reduced to a judgment which may be executed by the Court.  However, most states have homesteading laws which protect equity in property up to a certain amount such as $150,000 in profit.

Most likely, an arbitrator cannot force a sale and the Court would have to Order a Sheriff's sale.

I suggest you speak to an attorney in your area since this is an issue which any competent lawyer can address in less than 5 minutes.

Very truly yours,
