Question My wife is a postmaster and was served with a letter of discipline from her superior. She is going to mediation to hopefully reduce the discipline. She forgot when overly busy to make a required scan 3 times over a period of time. Her letter accused her of disobeying a direct order. She will be accompanied by a union rep. Any advice on what to expect, how to prepare and strategy would be appreciated. Thanx and have a nice day!
Answer Earl,
I strongly suggest your wife speak with her union representative prior to the mediation (which I suspect is really an arbitration). The union is well versed in postal mediations/arbitrations and can accurately tell her what to expect and their thoughts on the best course of action.
My recommendation would be for her to be accountable and apologetic. She needs to convey that her malfeasance was not intentional and the steps she will take to ensure following the procedures.
