Question
Ralph,

My son is a senior in high school and he has expressed an interest in archaeology, but he's not sure if he wants to pursue college in this area.

Are there any volunteer programs in archaeology in North Carolina you would recommend.  These could be short term (summer work) or longer.

Thank you.

Michael Gelinne

Answer
Hi Michael,

The North Carolina Archaeological Society has two chapters.  One on the coast and the other in the Piedmont.

rla.unc.edu/ncas  is  the web site.  They do digs in different places and most are volunteers.

Also contact the nearest U of NC and check with the anthropology dept. Most have an archaeology department and they often accept volunteers during their summer digs.
