Archaeology - cannon balls

Expert: Ralph Salier - 10/4/2009

Question
Sirs,
I dug up an IRON, cast ball; 3.78 lbs, 3.032-3.116 dia.
I am now convinced that it is not a cannon ball.
Thanks,
Don G.

Answer
Hi Don,

Would you kindly send me a pic of the item along with information about where you found it and why you think it is cast.  Why don't you think ti is a cannon ball?   If you found it some place else then where you live, then let me know the area where you live so that I can direct you to a local museum.

When you send the pic, please place a ruler or something in front of it for scale.

You can send it to rsalier@hotmail.com and in the subject line put in cannon ball.
