Question
We live in South East Texas, and would love to find a dig we could go on, but I have had a hard time finding anything.  Any help u could give me, would be great if you could send me in the right direction.  Ty Missy

Answer
Hi Missy,

You can try this web site but there aren't to many sites that allow amateurs to participate.

You can join www.shovelbums.org and they have a listing of field schools.  I'm not sure if there are any on the coast but there may be something going in Matagorda Bay.

SE Texas is a big area and it could help to know the nearest city and if you are interested in coastal, nautical or in land types of field work.  The local university may also have a field school program this summer and may allow visitors to take part.  Also the state archaeological society has chapters in many parts of the state and they some times sponsor digs that allow member amateurs to participate.

The state society contact number is:Texas Archeological Society
