Archaeology/Small colleges for Archaeology

Question
Hello,
I am interested in Archaeology as a possible career and as a probable major in college. Unfortunately, most colleges that I look at that have Archaeology are big state schools or Ivy League. It isn't that I think I wouldn't get into a good state school its that I find them too large. I prefer smaller private liberal arts colleges. Do you know of any colleges that are smaller than 5 or 6 thousand students that focus on Greco-Roman Archaeology or that of Northern Europe? Also I was wondering whether or not majoring in Anthropology at a small school then going on to get my masters in Archaeology at a larger school might not work equally well.
Thanks for the help!

Answer
Hi Eileen.

Check out Seton Hall University.  This is a small school with a program that may fit your needs.   They also have a good Anthro program.

What do you hope to do with a degree in Archaeology?

Some advice as it was given to me by M. Leakey many years ago:  "Make sure you have a back up plan.  Get a teaching certificate, study economics or social work.  Become a plumber or electrician.  That way when it is hard to find work as an Archaeologist, you have something else to fall back on to make a living."  I'm happy I listened to her.
