Question
vase
vase
Hi...I have been having alot of difficulty identifying a clay vase I purchased at an estate sale in Potomac, Md.  There are no seams or evidence of throwing on a pottery wheel. One side of the vase has a protruding happy face, the other side a protruding sad face.  It is very heavy.  The height is approx 15". Width is approx: 12" depth is approx 4". The clay is multicolored: black, orange, tan, gray.  Top rim is uneven.  I have attached an image.  From what I understand, it was found on the property.

Hi Lori,

I am not an expert in modern American Ceramic arts.  However the person for whom I've provided the web address above, Mr. Humler, is an expert who works for Rookwood.

This may well be a Rookwood piece but I'm not sure.  Please contact him with photos of both sides, top and bottom views as well and he may be more helpful.

I"m sorry I could not be of greater assistance.
