Archaeology/taking calculus in high-school

Question
Hello,
I'm a grade 12 student looking to take a degree in archaeology at university next year. I plan to eventually specialize in Medieval/Celtic archaeology. I have the option of taking a calculus course, or a Medieval and Ancient History course (but not both).
I've already taken Advanced math 12 as well as Precalculus and I'm wondering if it's really necessary for me to take the calculus course. (I am interested in taking a Bsc in archaeology).

I really would like to take the Medieval and Ancient History course, but I'll take the calculus if it's more important...

I would be grateful for any advice you can offer,
Rebecca

Answer
Hi Rebecca,

While calculus can be of value, you can take it at the university level as well.  Take the history course knowing that you will be taking more in university as well.

One bit of advice that I got from Mary Leaky many years ago,  " make sure that you have a back up plan, have a secondary career path like economics, sociology, history, teaching, plumbing, brick laying... Something that you can make a living with if you are unable to find work as an archaeologist or if you choose to give it up for some reason."
