Archaeology/Archaeology "title"

Question
Could you tell me what qualifyies the title as an archaeologist?  Can anyone that has performed historic documentation use the title Archaeologist?

Answer
There is no universal set of criteria as to who can call themselves an "archaeologist".  It is generally understood that a person who so describes themselves makes their living primarily from archaeology; but there are many "amateur" (or avocational) archaeologists who have made significant contributions to our understanding of the past.
Not all archaeologists dig.  In fact, quite a few work in archives (historic documentation) or in laboratories.  So, a person who has performed historic documentation could call themselves an archaeologist.  "Archivist", "historian",  or "archival archaeologist" might be more accurate terms.
