Archaeology/creationism and me

Question
I am a 24 year old student of Marine Archaeology and am truly dedicated to my science. i have always seen archaeology as a way of finding the truth of our origins through logical and scientific means. the more i study archaeology the more i find myself amazed by our complex origins, not only us but all that came before us right the way back to the Big Bang.
i recently found horrified to see that the teaching of evolution was being banned in some places in place of creationism. i am not an anti religious person but i cant understand creationist reasonings for earth origins. the idea that the earth is only some thousands of years old i find prepostorous and i thought that even simple methods such as dendrachronology could be used to disprove this.
anyhow with all this in mind should i take creationism as a seriuos threat to science and indeed my carreer as an archaeologist, what do you think we can do to make sure our lifes work isnt compromised?
Thankyou for your time

Answer
Robert, Yes it looks scary.  And yes their ideas are idiotic and preposterous.  But its out there being promulgated by the "religious right".  But think about it, WE know the truth and that that TRUTH will eventually over come the narrow minded witch hunting nonsensical claptrap they expouse.  What they expouse can not be proven by the scientific method and can not be proven even through logical thought and reasoning.

As a religious person my self, I was dismayed for a time too but no longer.  There is no contradiction to our science and the Bible or any other religious document.  The only difference is the "timing" they use vs US.  If they want to believe that the Earth is only 6k years old, let them, the rest of us KNOW that they are delusional.
