Architecture/Support beam of aluminum

Question
I am replacing a 7 inch tall wood beam in a car port with a 2x4 inch rectangle pipe with 1/8 inch thick wall. The roof is made of 2x6s at 16 inch centers and a 3/4 inch deck of pine boards with black paper and metal corrugated roofing on that.
The carport roof is supported on one side with 3 posts at about 9 ft centers. will a beam/pipe of the size described above large enough or strong enough to support such with not more than a 3/16 inch sag? If that does not seem adequate, give me an idea as to what configuration in aluminum that I might should use. Thank you kindly!!!
I am smiling on the rectangle pipe because I can get it for a rather low price, other beams are 4 times higher.

Answer
Hi Marvin,
I will have to defer to a structural engineer for this.  No architect is truly qualified to answer this question for you unless he or she also has a degree in structural engineering.  If you are in a hurricane or seismic zone then this issue is more complicated.
Thank you
