Question
Hello John!

I could totally see where you thought that was a homework question. I should have given you a background. I am working on a novel taking place in a big city in future America. I needed to find out how much space a 3000ft building would take up because I know nothing about this type of stuff, I am better in the marketing aspect of business, so I was wondering if you could help me.

Thanks!
~Cady

Answer
3,000 feet in height is about half a mile.  There is not much limiting the area per floor for half a mile, so the footprint is variable.
Approx. 5 million square feet could be built.

The tallest building going up now is a little over 2/3ds this number.
(FLW had a mile high concept.)

My guess is that it will need 4-8 acres of land.  The actual footprint might be smaller but the area required for staging, parking, swimming pools, entry porte cochere, etc. will be larger.
