Question
I have a fireplace that is in an undesirable location. Can it be removed ? What type of service person would I ask to remove it ?

Answer
Is the fireplace a prefab unit or brick or stone wood burning fireplace? Drop in gas fired only fireplaces may need flues as well as wood burners.  Is this on the first or second floor?  Wood burning fireplaces require proper structural support.
If you fireplace requires a chimney and is on a ground floor, you can have any wood framing contractor move it.  If there are gas lines, these will have to be rerouted.  If the fireplace has any firebrick or masonry, there will be a mason required to relocate it.  If you have a crawl space and are not on a slab on grade, a masonry fireplace will need structural support.  A structural engineer should also assist with moving a heavy fireplace over a crawl space or basement where the firebox sits on wood framing members.  The roof will have to be properly flashed also if the chimney is relocated and should be framed around the roof trusses or hand built framing.  Any electrical connections to a remote gas starter will require an electrician as well.
