Architecture/Industry Standard

Question
Hello, here is my question. Which program do you think is the industry's standard,"Chief Architect" or "Autodesk Architecture(AutoCad)?
I have been working with Chief Architect for awhile but people tell me that Chief Architect is "not professional", "not industry standard", or "You will never find a carrer with Chief Architect".

Answer
Hello Jimmie,
Nearly all U.S. engineering firms use Autodesk products, and this is confirmed by overseas companies.
Most architectural firms use AutoCad as well.  There are design programs that are more sophisticated than Chief Architect, but they are in the minority.
Final construction documents are produced in AutoCad more than in Chief by a wide margin.
I actually started using 3D Home Architect several years back and use Chief now mainly for floor planning.  I export dwg files to have Autodesk users finish the work.  I tend to hand draw my elevations and then these are also recreated in AutoCad.
I like Chief a lot as it is quick and object oriented, but the industry standard has been Autodesk products due to the more complex features in that software.
If you are going to run your own office, you can use whatever program you like, but keep in mind that nearly all of your consultants will be using other programs.

Expertise

I am interested in the artistic and theoretical aspects of architecture and urban design/planning. I can discuss the progression of classical to modern architecture, the general stylistic and technical development, the formation of towns and cities, the background and training of architects. Ask any question relating to the profession, working with an architect, background information, etc.
