Question
My question is that i have a cape that i would like to raise the other side of the roof so i can add a bedroom and open the master closet. I would like to know a guess on how much i can cost and if it can be done. here is a picture of the home.

Answer
As long as the first floor can take the added weight of a two story projection above then you are fine.  But normally the foundation at the outer wall of a one story house is designed originally for the weight of only a single story.  I would suggest talking to a local builder to ball park an estimate in your area as I am not familiar with building costs there.  Also contact a structural engineer to verify. You may need to beef up the foundation to do this. Thank you.

I am interested in the artistic and theoretical aspects of architecture and urban design/planning. I can discuss the progression of classical to modern architecture, the general stylistic and technical development, the formation of towns and cities, the background and training of architects. Ask any question relating to the profession, working with an architect, background information, etc.
