Architecture/obtaining blueprints

Question
Hello,

I stayed at a lovely old turn of the century hispanic villa in Corpus Christi, TX, and loved it so much I want to build one for myself.  I do not know how to go about obtaining the blueprints for the house.  I emailed the innkeeper but did not receive a response.  Any suggestions?

Appreciatively,

Virginia Fleming
Missouri City, TX

Answer
Hi Ms. Fleming,
The only place that would have the original copies or blueprints are the architect who designed the building or the building department at the city or county that would have copies of the 'blueprints' for the building permit on file.
If the building is very old and has a historic aspect about it the local historical societies may have the architect's name.  Then you might research other firms that may have absorbed this architect's files.
A good architect should be able to reproduce the design by taking photographs and simply walking through the interior.

I am interested in the artistic and theoretical aspects of architecture and urban design/planning. I can discuss the progression of classical to modern architecture, the general stylistic and technical development, the formation of towns and cities, the background and training of architects. Ask any question relating to the profession, working with an architect, background information, etc.
