Question
My daughter is contemplating purchasing a very dated looking two story home,
white brick bottom & cedar 2nd story.  Is it possible to remove brick and replace
with more current stone adding columns to make it look more modern?  Is it
possible to send in a picture and have it redrawn to guide her on this remodel?
If so, what would something like this cost?

Answer
Thank you for your question. Yes it is always possible to replace one type of masonry product for another. For the addition of the columns, it is always possible as long as there is an appropriate foundation for them. Remember, masonry products are heavy and you have to have the appropriate support. Only an Architect can redesign the "masonry" part of your home with the set up of the right position for the columns. Unfortunately I cannot do that part. What I can do is recommend you the perfect stone for your project. A first hint would be to propose to you a rockstone finish stone to "modernize" your project and give it an uplifting value, and light. I would love to have the picture of what the house currently looks like. As for the costs, best would be to contact a local bricklayer specialist that will be able to quote for you on how much it costs to take the old brick off and install the new stone, all in one contract. The bricklayer can also recommend to you a local brick and stone distributor to help you with your shopping as well.

Hope this was helpful for you!
