Question
Hello,
I am a second year Interior Design student, looking for  insight for a Loft Precis that I have recently been assigned. I am interested to get an architect's point of view on some areas surrounding loft design. Interested in what to consider specifically for entrances and stair design. and any other space defining architectural features that may help with this topic. I've been coming up short in finding good information on design problems and possible solutions?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you
Cheryl

Answer
Hello Cheryl,

Thank you for your question. I am currently working on an interior design for a loft as well, good coincidence! What I have recommended the Architect to use is lightweight stone. Usually the width of bricks and stones are 3 5/8" bed size, therefore too heavy for any interior applications. The lightweight stone is 1½" thick and can be easily installed just as ceramics for instance. Masonry is always inviting and gives warmth and value to any interior design. Even if you consider a modern oriented design, or classic of the 1800's, stone is always a winner in my book. I invite you to visit the web site at Shouldice Designer Stone, under the "Eldorado" stone products. With those, you will find many illuminating ideas that will give your living room, or staircase, a touch of warmth every loft deserves!

Hope this was helpful to you, and good luck with your project!
