Architecture/addition to house on hill

Question
We have an older home with a full basement, with a man made hill surrounding it, over 50 years. We want to add a garage with a full cement floor and a fully insulated addition. we have been told that the cement will be very heavy against the old walls which are approx 12" thick and very sturdy. What do we need to know. Can we put a 24X 30 cement pad against the house on the hill. We already have decided to make both additions 4 sided so that it does not compromise the house walls. Will this amound of cement be too heavy and eventually push on the walls.

Answer
I wish I could answer you with experience on this type of addition but most of my work is in the south and we have dealt with only one basement situation.
I suggest having a structural engineer visit the site to analyze the existing walls and proposed addition.
Thank you,
JH
