Hi Melina,

To answer your questions:

what kind of experience, paid or unpaid, would you encourage for anybody pursuing a career in
the architecture field?

--I think you learn the most in a smaller office where you get exposed to more areas of the architecture practice, so I would look for a position in a firm between 3-10 people.  If you were able to get an internship at a well known architect's office (like Rem Koolhaas), then I'd also consider that.

what other jobs can a person get with the same architecture background?

--Interior architecture, other design related jobs, facilities manager, campus architect (for universities, client representatives for large commercial companies

does architecture career affects a person's lifestyle?

--It depends on how much you let it. I would say that goes for any profession.

how do you prepare for being architect?

--You typically go to university for 5-6 years then spend 3 years as an intern. You now can start taking the architecture licensing exam during your 3 year internship.

what abilities or personal qualities do you believe contribute most to success in the architecture field?

--Artistic and organized.  You have to be creative, but you also have to be able to organize a lot of information in a cohesive manner.

what are the advice for someone interested in the architecture?

--You won't get rich being an architect, but you can make a decent living if you are good at it.  Be sure you are doing something you love, whatever it is.

does economy affects the architecture industry in any way?

--Yes, more so than other industries.  There are always ups and downs in the building cycle, so be prepared for very busy times and very slow times.
