Architecture/joist hangers

Question
I have a project where the ceiling joists will be exposed.  I am looking for joist hangers that will look good.  In the construction of ski lofts, churches, etc where there are a lot of exposed joists, rafters, and beams you see the black cast iron, wrought iron (or maybe just painted steel) connectors.

However, I have been unable to find a conservative looking black 2 x 6 joist hanger.

I am not looking for a wonderful work of art that costs a ton of money, just a sturdy hanger that doesn't look like a strong tie bought from home depot and spray painted.

Can you please direct me.

Thank you
David

Answer
Hi David,

It may be difficult to find one for a 2x6 since most of the type of hangers that are nicely made are for larger timber sizes.  I did find one for a 4x6 from Simpson:

They have an 'architectural' line that I think is what you are looking for, but I don't think they make a 2x6 hanger (but you might want to contact them to check).

I don't know if it's possible to change your lumber sizes to 4x6's instead.  I might look better with the larger timbers.

If you need to stick with 2x6, then you may need to have them custom made.

Good luck - this might be a touch one to find exactly what you're looking for.
