Question
Hi. I want to build a 2-story house with a kind of sunroom. My problem is: if the "sunroom" is about 10'x28' on the first floor with a room/hall above, what is the maximum allowed distance between the support pillars (i'm thinking of using 1.3'x0.7' pillars)? Thank you.

Answer
Hi Rudolf,

I would recommend you speak to a structural engineer in your area to help you size the distance between the columns.  The distance will vary depending on several factors including the construction type, materials used, building codes, etc.  There are simply too many variables to give you an accurate answer.  To find an engineer you might try asking a local architect for a recommendation.

Sorry I couldn't provide a specific answer for this one but I wish you luck on your project.
