Architecture/Our new house

Question

Front view
We bought this house a short time ago.It does need a lot pf work but we think it has a lot of charm and a big upside. We would like to restore it to as original as possible. But first we would love to find out the real definitive name for this style of house. We have heard English cottage , Irish Cottage style etc etc. If we could find this info out it would help us greatly in finding other homes like ours and giving us ideas on the restoration. Any help you can give us would be greatly appreciated !
Thanks

Answer
It looks like an English cottage to me, but the actual style would likely be called Tudor.  Tudors typically have side facing gables with a cross gable, relatively steep roofs, half-timbering, tall and narrow windows with multiple panes of glass, large chimneys with decorative chimney pots.  Your chimney looks good to me until the brick.  You might consider redoing the top with stone and decorative pots, or working on the stone/brick transition (which looks too abrupt), then adding decorative pots to the top.  The roof is false thatched, which means it's made to look like a thatch roof.  Looks like a nice house!

Enjoy your project.
