i am a freshmen in high school now. what college should i attend to get a good education?

Hi ab,

I am a strong believer in going to the best college you can afford.  I went to Carnegie Mellon and felt I got a very good education. Cornell, MIT, Harvard, and Yale are all great schools too. There are some magazines that publish the best schools.  I believe Architect magazine just had an issue on schools. I would try to find a copy and start making a list of schools to consider.  You want to go to a school near where you live, so you'll have to do some research into which ones are available.

Be sure to check whether their program is accredited (NAAB, I believe accredits architecture programs).  Then you may want to check what degrees are offered. Typically there are two: B-ARCH,which is typically a 5 year program, and a MARCH, which requires you get a BA first (4 years of school) and then an M-ARCH (typically another 2 years).  The B-ARCH is the fastest way to your degree. If you don't get into the school of your choice in a BA program, then you may get into it for the M-ARCH program (you don't have to get both degrees from the same school, and in fact I typically recommend different schools so you get a greater exposure to different ways of thinking).

There are also schools, like the University of Cincinnati, that offer internships during school, so you get exposure to a working office while also learning.  These tend to be good programs, and there are a few out there.
