Question

Masonite Siding Replac
I have masonite siding that needs replacement. I am considering Hardipanels or stucco siding. Would the stucco look odd since half the house is red brick?  I want to keep the red brick, but don't want to compromise the style of the house.

Answer
Good evening Lee - thanks for your question.

That's a very nice ranch - glad you're taking care of it!  Stucco is often an appropriate choice for residing, but not in this case.  I like the idea of the hardie products better, it will give the house a texture and shadow line that stucco won't - especially in your sunny climate.

In particular, I'd use the HardiePanel Vertical Siding to create a board and batten look on the sided areas of the house - entirely appropriate for a ranch, and more interesting than stucco.  And of course you can paint it any number of colors to compliment the brick.

Hope this helps!

Expertise

Ask me about all aspects of house, remodeling. , and room addition design and construction. Ask me about historic homes, renovation, and restoration. Ask me about materials and techniques, and about how you can get the best value for your design and construction dollar. Ask me how you can make your home a very special place. I can't, however, answer specific structural engineering questions in this forum - that's something you'll need on-site observation for.
