Question
Hello,
I am looking forward to being an architect in the near future. Could you tell me what college would be best for my career? I have considered The University of Oklahoma and East Central University. OU is a little far away from home, but I can't find the courses I am needing to take at ECU. Please help me and give me your advice.

Thank you,
Vanessa Hill

Answer
Hello Ms. Hill,
There are many excellent colleges of architecture.
I do not have a listing of ranking colleges though to tell which would be best.
The main thing is the effort YOU put into your education.
You must be motivated to go through everything and to learn as much as possible.
There are two programs available.
A five year program earns a Bachelor Degree.
Other schools have a 4 + 2 program.  The four years earns a Bachelor of Environmental Design. If you go two more you will earn a Master of Architecture degree which is what I undertook at Texas A&M.
The Bach. program does not result in a professional degree in architecture but it allows you to take general courses that would be the basis for art, graphics, or architecture.
You must have a professional degree to be eligible for the licensing exam.
You will need to move further to take the architecture courses though.
Best wishes,
JH

Expertise

I am interested in the artistic and theoretical aspects of architecture and urban design/planning. I can discuss the progression of classical to modern architecture, the general stylistic and technical development, the formation of towns and cities, the background and training of architects. Ask any question relating to the profession, working with an architect, background information, etc.
