Question
How do I find a Frank Lloyd Wright design or in his style, for a garage with an apartment?

Answer
Hello again Kate - thanks for your question!

I don't know if FLW ever designed a garage with an apartment above it, although it's certainly possible!

The folks who would know are either the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation (www.franklloydwright.org) or Taliesin Architects (www.taliesin.edu).  Taliesin Architects is the school that Wright founded, and can even design a project in Wright's Prairie Style for you if want.

There a quite a few websites that sell plans for detached garages, and some likely have Wright-inspired designs.  Have you tried a Google search for "prairie style garage plans"?

You also might contact an Architect in your area that is familiar with prairie style and ask for a custom design.  Even if you find a plan online, it will need to be adjusted for your area, so it wouldn't hurt to make contact with a local Architect anyway.

You can find Architects through this service: http://architectfinder.aia.org/ or by asking around your area.  A great source is you neighbors who've worked with an Architect.

Hope this helps,

Expertise

Ask me about all aspects of house, remodeling. , and room addition design and construction. Ask me about historic homes, renovation, and restoration. Ask me about materials and techniques, and about how you can get the best value for your design and construction dollar. Ask me how you can make your home a very special place. I can't, however, answer specific structural engineering questions in this forum - that's something you'll need on-site observation for.
