Architecture/Glass shingles

Question
QUESTION: I have these glass shingles that I have been holding on to for a long time, and I decided to sell them on craigslist recently. I got alot of responses about them, but I asked people to make me an offer for them. I had one guy offer me a '62 ford falcon, and another guy offered me $95. for them. It made me curious and I've looked all over the internet for answers but came up dry! Can you help me? I was told once that they are from the 1920's-1930's if that helps...? Thank you.

ANSWER: Glass was used in a variety of different applications in kitchens and on the exteriors of buildings. One of the most common applications was the glass block used in the late 30s on Modern architecture.

When you say shingles, it makes me curious because I am not sure exactly what you are talking about. Are they actually shingles or tiles? Are they marked in any way? Do you have a photo of them so I can look through my resources and get an ID?  I have some ideas but need more info.

QUESTION: I'm pretty sure they aren't tiles, because they have sides that are rounded and overlap, and there are some that look like caps, maybe for the top of the roof. I checked for a mark or symbol but found nothing. Hopefully the picture helps...thank you.

Wish I could say I knew what they are. Tentatively, I would date them to the late 1930s and forward as glass building materials became much more prominent during the mid century. They are very interesting and I would definitely do more research before parting with them. You might check a local architectural salvage house for information as they might have run across these before.

I'll keep my eyes open for more information or manufacturers. If you want to contact me directly through Antique Home Style, that would be great.

Expertise

Residential architectural questions concerning houses designed between 1900 and 1950, where the question pertains specifically to styles, designs, plans, building materials, color schemes, paint colors, interior finishes and so on. I am NOT qualified to answer engineering questions or issues involving construction methods, plumbing, electrical and the like. For example, I can describe what an appropriate color scheme would be for a vintage 1920s kitchen, or sources for plans for Storybook Style houses. I can not tell someone how to replace the electrical wiring in their old home.

Experience

I have been researching old houses and writing about them for more than five years. (See www.antiquehomestyle.com, which is my site.)
