Question
foundation
foundation
Hi, because of a gutter leak some soil has washed away from our foundation. I have included a picture. I was thinking about just putting down some black soil, maybe painting it first. What is your opinion? Thank you.

Answer
Hi Rose,

Thanks for the question. Is this a concrete wall or other material that is acceptable to have soil against it? If yes, then pulling the soil away, and painting it, then placing it back would work.  We often will put down two layers of weed blocking fabric and put river rock / cobbles over this to create for about 1' wide. This helps prevent dirt from splashing up onto the stucco when it rains. If you do this, you may still want to excavate a bit along the wall and then add back in the rocks so they aren't too far above grade.

Hope this helps!
