Architecture/Lighting glare

Question
I like to assemble jig saw puzzles on the dining room table. The overhead light causes severe glare which makes it difficult. What kind of lighting setup could I install/use that would reduce or elimate this glare?

Answer
You have the basic problem associated with detailed work in Industry. You need localised high levels of illumination but cannot deal with the associated glare. The answer is two fold you need localised illumination in the form of task lighting (not LV or dichroic) PL (compact-fluorescent) type lamp often used by doctors in their surgeries to review paper work and a higher ambient (general) lighting level. A standard lamp with a good diffuser either cloth or paper will do this. Avoid illumination from distant positions.
