Architecture/Patio Cover

Question
We have a U shape patio area we would like to cover by attaching to the eaves. We'd like the top to be polycarbonate material. We live in east central Louisiana, no snow, hardly any tornados, lots of summer thunderstorms..but every few years inland hurricanes could be a factor. The area needs to be covered because of dampness. Drainage is a problem. Facing the area..on the right and left is the eaves of the house with a length of 15 feet. And facing ahead is an eave with a width of 7 1/2 feet (this area leads to the back door of the house).  How do we install a cover and attach to eaves? Do we attach right and left or ahead by the width?

Answer
Sonya - thanks for your question!

I had to laugh at "hardly any tornadoes"! Not something you'd put in a real estate brochure!

I'm having trouble picturing the house - any chance you can email me a photo?

Expertise

Ask me about all aspects of house, remodeling. , and room addition design and construction. Ask me about historic homes, renovation, and restoration. Ask me about materials and techniques, and about how you can get the best value for your design and construction dollar. Ask me how you can make your home a very special place. I can't, however, answer specific structural engineering questions in this forum - that's something you'll need on-site observation for.
