Question
I am in the process of building a home in Nashville, TN. My builder wants to charge me $95 per can light. I personally think that is ALOT! considering I want about 8-10 in the house. Is that normal? Another builder adds 6 as a package to is homes for 250 which is more digestable. What are your thoughts?

Answer
Jamie:

Thanks for your question!

Find out whether the $95 price includes the trim rings, and what kind of trim rings they are - that might be the difference between the two.

$95 is high in my area (central Ohio) for just the installed can - they run closer to $70-$80 depending upon the manufacturer.

Hope this helps!

Expertise

Ask me about all aspects of house, remodeling. , and room addition design and construction. Ask me about historic homes, renovation, and restoration. Ask me about materials and techniques, and about how you can get the best value for your design and construction dollar. Ask me how you can make your home a very special place. I can't, however, answer specific structural engineering questions in this forum - that's something you'll need on-site observation for.
