Question
Do you know of a place that is universally designed that is out of the ordinary. For example there is a lighthouse here in Oregon and it gives all people access to the wildlife and ocean viewing. Or do you have any ideas on a place that should be more universally designed?
Thank you.

Rachel - thanks for your question!

Can you be more specific?  "Universal Design" is a very broad area.  What are you looking for?

Answer
Rachel:

There are several excellent information sources about UD on the web.  North Carolina State University has a Center for Universal Design, with a very informative site at www.design.ncsu.edu/cud.

Another site with UD information from an Architect's point of view is at www.universaldesign.com.

In your area, the University of Oregon has the National Center to Improve the Tools of Educators at http://idea.uoregon.edu/~ncite/ which does some research on UD.

You might want to contact some of these sources to find UD projects in your area, or to find out more about UD.

Hope this helps!

Expertise

Ask me about all aspects of house, remodeling. , and room addition design and construction. Ask me about historic homes, renovation, and restoration. Ask me about materials and techniques, and about how you can get the best value for your design and construction dollar. Ask me how you can make your home a very special place. I can't, however, answer specific structural engineering questions in this forum - that's something you'll need on-site observation for.
