Question
Our contractor replaced the windows in our small ranch home with six pane and others with eight pane. My husband is upset because he felt the quality wasn't the same and it is an archetectual mistake. On pricey homes, do you mix the window types?
We have mixed window types on pricey homes, yes. Aluminum wrapped wood windows, such as Hurd on front elevation and just aluminum frames on side and back.
As far as geometry of the window panes, this is more a question of how true to the period your house is now. If not, and is 'transitional', then the mix of panes is not an issue unless the same dimension of the window frame is side by side and one is 6, the other 8. In this case it would not be 'architecturally correct'. If the manufacturer is different then the quality may be different.
