Architecture - architectural prints, collection of-a mystery!

Expert: Paul S. Brown, AIA - 6/14/2007

Question
I have an old ledger, 11x14 inches, bookplate of Theodore Woodman Gore. Contents are a collection of primarily architectural prints, most from Harper's Weekly, many with penciled titles in a fine handwriting. Book was found hidden in the basement of a house we bought from a relative of Gore's. How can I find out what this one-of-a-kind item is worth? I believe the bookplate is collectible also (by artist E.H. Blashfield). P.S.-I asked this question of an "expert" in the Fine Arts category as well as a Books category, and received these replies, "outside of my expertise", "unable to reply"; so if you can't help or refer me to someone else I guess I am probably done with AllExperts. Thank you very much.

Answer
6/21/07 Hi Again Peg;
Just following up; wondering if you had any luck getting more info about the bookplate by Blashfield, TWG, and/or the collection of prints.  Are any of the prints originals?  I would love to see them if you happen to be anywhere in the Boston area. you can contact me directly by email; my last name, then @ draws . com .

Hi Peg:
Here is the best I can offer:
Arizona State University apparently has something similar in the Special Collections department of the University Library. (per my Google search)
Suggest you go to this webpage and contact them for additional information:  http://www.asu.edu/lib/help/askalib.htm
Also, the American Institute of Architects has historians on staff.  They are helpful on the phone; call:800-AIA-3837 and tell them you would like to speak to someone in the AIA historical archives department.
Also, I learned that TWG joined the New England Historical Genealogical Society in 1905, he lived in Boston at that time.  There is a Gore family estate here in the Boston area, TWG's ?grandfather? was a governor of Mass.  Suggest you contact: GORE PLACE
52 Gore Street
Waltham Massachusetts 02453-6866
voice: (781) 894-2798 • fax: (781) 894-5745
E-mail: goreplace@goreplace.org
to learn more info about TW Gore.
Hope that helps.
PB
