Question I was wondering if it is possible to put a basement in an existing home? Our home use to have a full basement and the previous owners filled it in with dirt and now it is just a crawl space in some areas and a full basement in others. I think it might have something to do with the foundation going bad.
So with that said it is possible to replace the foundation and make a livable basement?
Answer Hi Tiffany:
Good question....
Yes, it is possible. But the next question is; how much will it cost? And then, how disruptive will it be? and, is it worth the expense?
A good contractor with experience on similar projects, can help you answer these questions, and explain the process.
You should plan to spend a lot of time on the phone to develop a list of 5 or 6 contractors that are interested in coming out to have a look at your home. In order to get a list of 5 or 6, you will probably need to call at least 30, and describe your project to them all.
It's a lot of work, but if you invest the time and energy, you should be able to find someone local who can give you good information about your particular project.
Good luck!
