Architecture - green architecture

Expert: Paul S. Brown, AIA - 4/14/2007

Question
Hi Paul,
I have been looking for an internship position with green architects in nyc. I
have done extensive research both on my own and for classes on
environmental economics and the chemistry of global warming. I have
familiarized myself with green architecture and its something that I think I
could have a real passion for, something I could dedicate my career to.
However, I have no way of knowing without actually being a part of it and
unfortunately my college doesnt actually offer any sustainable architecture
courses. I'm a bit discouraged, I think I've contacted every sustainable
architect in the city about an unpaid position and still, nothing. I don't have
any real experience but I need to find a way of gaining some. What I need to
know more about is the technical aspect. I need to know what it takes to be
an architect. I love the idea of structures integrated into their environment
and smart techniques to using natural processes as a means of gaining
energy. This is the beauty and aesthetic that appeals to me. If you could offer
advice or guide me to resources for beginning architects that would be much
appreciated.

Thanks,
Alexa

Answer
Hi Alexa;
Are you in an Architecture Program at your college?  But they don't offer any sustainable design courses?  Or are you in some other sort of program? I need some more info in order to be able to help you out ... let's go 'off line' to discuss further.  We try to be as 'sustainable' as possible here at my firm.  Email me directly at : pbrown @ draws . com (take out the spaces.)  I'll look forward to hearing from you.
