Answer
Arun:

Thanks for your question!  I'd recommend you start looking for referrals by contacting elevator installers in Cleveland.  One firm we've used several times in Westlake and Strongsville is:

John W. Blatt Elevator Consulting Inc.
711 W. Lakeshore Drive Suite 204
Port Clinton, Ohio 43452
419-732-8101

They can give you names of architects they've worked with who are familiar with the requirements of retrofitting residential elevators into older homes.

There are several other residential elevator contractors in Ohio; we've also worked with:

Gable Elevator
Mr. Rick Gable
425 Industry Drive
Columbus, OH 43204
614-276-6666

Otis Elevator
2231 Westbrooke Dr
Building M
Columbus, OH 43228
Phone: (614)777-6500
Night: (614)777-6525
Fax: (614)777-6509

You should expect to spend at least $25,000 buying and installing the elevator (assuming there is space in your house).  The cost will vary depending upon the size and finishes in the elevator, and the unique situation of fitting the elevator in your home - some homes are easier to work with than others.

You might also want to contact the Cleveland AIA chapter for references to Residential Architects:

Mary Helen Hammer, Executive Director
1001 Huron Road, #101
Cleveland, OH  44115
Phone:  (216) 575-1242
Fax:  (216) 575-1244

Hope this helps!

Expertise

Ask me about all aspects of house, remodeling. , and room addition design and construction. Ask me about historic homes, renovation, and restoration. Ask me about materials and techniques, and about how you can get the best value for your design and construction dollar. Ask me how you can make your home a very special place. I can't, however, answer specific structural engineering questions in this forum - that's something you'll need on-site observation for.
