Architecture/replacement windows

Question
We own a colonial style home that was built in 1990.  It has med. brown
(walnut) colored wood trim and doors throughout.  The windows need to be
replaced.
We are considering white vinyl replacement windows, as my husband doesn't
want the maintenance of wood.  My question is:  how will it look to have
white windows with brown trim?  I would love to see some pictures of what
this might look like.  What do you think?  I am thinking of asking the
replacement window co. if they have windows that are white vinyl on the
outside and brown wood on the inside.  Your thoughts would be greatly
appreciated.  Thank you.

Answer
Diane,

Several vinyl window manufacturers make windows with white exteriors and woodgrain interiors.  They look pretty good.  I don't know what method of window replacement you are planning, but if you are leaving the existing wood frames in place, and  installing window units within them, you will still have exposed wood on the outside.  Does the installation include the covering of this wood (typically with aluminum)?

If you can afford it, you may want to consider replacement windows by Marvin or Pella, which are aluminum clad on the exterior and have natural wood interiors which can be stained.  These cost more and require more skill and diligence (hence, time) during installation.  The end result is more attractive than vinyl.

Please let me know if you need additional information.  By the way, where are you located?
