Architecture/wood cladding

Question
I would like to have cladding applied to the exterior of the existing wood frames of my windows and doors.

Is this possible and, if so, could you suggest how I can try to find someone to do the job?

Thank you

Jay

Answer
Jay - thanks for your question.

Windows are usually "clad" in vinyl or aluminum; your subject line says "wood cladding".  I'll assume you're talking about adding a vinyl or aluminum cladding to your existing wood windows.

As far as I know, it's not possible.  It would be make more sense to purchase new clad windows.  You might be able to replace the sashes only, which would save quite a bit of money.

Most of the large window manufacturers sell clad windows, and some sell custom-sized sash.  I'd contact your local building supply company and ask them for some names of window companies in your area.

Hope this helps!

Expertise

Ask me about all aspects of house, remodeling. , and room addition design and construction. Ask me about historic homes, renovation, and restoration. Ask me about materials and techniques, and about how you can get the best value for your design and construction dollar. Ask me how you can make your home a very special place. I can't, however, answer specific structural engineering questions in this forum - that's something you'll need on-site observation for.
